Finishing Touches
Thursday 27th January
Finishing off.
The group split up to get the final clip. In the end we used a different technique to film to get a smoother effect by having one person riding the bike and one holding the camera.
The effect was slower and smoother, more details were captured and it was more atmospheric.
The group then met up to edit the sound. We went through the moving image and wrote down points in the clip where we wanted certain sounds to come through so that it would be a more realistic experience.

First Day Filming
Direction notes
Tuesday 25th January
We had to propose our idea to the class. This is part of the proposal, thoughts on how to direct the film prompted by the criticisms and questions from the crit.
Filming- shots.
Viewpoints/perspectives: duct taped to handle bars, trailed along on a skateboard, Held by someone else. Tops of buildings vs. Looking at the floor. Perspective of someone who is walking. How this fits in the context of the estate and who lived there before. The dips and rises in the path, how this can be in heightened and used to impact the overall emotion that is trying to be conveyed.
Speed: Consistently fast or slow, changes in speed.
Sound: More abstract noises, bass, picking up on vibrations. How this corresponds to the moving image (sounds from above, sounds from below). How the sound contributes to the overall atmosphere of the film and highlights the contrast of the derelict estate compared to what was there before. The abstractness of the sound directly engages the imagination in regard to questioning what was there before. Loud/quiet, contrast between both.
Mixed sound extracts from different estates. Making sure it is high quality- using the right type of equipment. Should synthetic noises be mixed with the natural noises that already exist on the actual estate? Creating an atmospheric noise that is brought together to not be quite comprehendible but perhaps refined elements are occasionally brought in such as a person shouting to create suspense and unanswered questions. A sense of mystery and past. Human remains through layers of sound.
Lighting: Time of day/ weather. Is it lit up at night? Effective ways of showing the empty abandoned state and conveying the atmosphere in the most effective and high quality way possible.
While taking all these elements into consideration they must be simplified and brought together in as concise manner as possible and not be overcomplicated. Test out the different components in order to see what fits together best.

Checking it out
Monday 24th January
After we agreed on the idea we went straight to the Heygate to look about and get a feel for the place.
Below are the photos that were taken, conveying a sense of the current atmosphere; an eery haze, leftover from what was once a densely populated community.
